This piece was inspired by a prompt from an organization, EcoArtSpace. I recently joined this group and it is neat because they present at UN events, and are very involved in both art and science. The prompt asked me to comment on the uplifting of the Texas power grid.

I ended up finding out that an international company, Pattern Energy is connecting the Texas grid to those of Louisiana and Mississippi. I called them up and learned that in previous projects, they have replaced agave plants three fold in order to protect the Mexican Longnose Bat. In a recent project they planted 5,000 agave plants. In a world where we are so frequently saturated with stories of climate doom, I thought it was important to tell the stories of people who do care.

This piece is largely painted with Texas soil. There are 5,000 dots behind this bat to represent the love and care put into planning the uplifting of our Texas grid. This piece is 22” x 30” and comes on a 1.5 deep panel.

It is scheduled to be in a show put on by EcoArtSpace during the Solar Eclipse in April. If you purchase it, it will be available after April 15th.
